12 Days of Handmade Christmas Gifts Series ----- Day 2: Pumpkin Pie Sugar Scrub

It's day two of the 12 Days of Handmade Christmas Gifts series, and today we're making sugar scrubs!  They're so easy to make, you can whip up and package dozens within an afternoon.

If you love pumpkin scents, this one is right up your alley.  It's just like bathing in pumpkin pie.

The recipe below will fit perfectly into a pint-sized mason jar.  Decorate the lid with a Christmas-y fabric scrap and tie on a label with a ribbon and it's ready for giving.

Pumpkin Pie Sugar Scrub
1 1/2 cups turbinado sugar (you can also substitute white sugar, but the color will be different)
1/4 cup pumpkin seed oil
1/2 teaspoon Pumpkin Pie fragrance oil
scant dash of pumpkin pie spice or cinnamon

Put the turbinado sugar into a medium-sized bowl.  Add the pumpkin seed oil and stir until the sugar is completely coated.  If the sugar scrub seems to dry for your liking, you can absolutely add more oil until you get the consistency that you like.

Add in the fragrance oil and a small dash of spices and stir well.  (You can add a bit more fragrance oil if you want a stronger scent, but I wouldn't add any more than 1 teaspoon, otherwise it can be irritating to the skin.)

Spoon mixture into a pint-sized mason jar.

To use:  Take 1-2 tablespoons of scrub into the shower with you.  Massage gently over the entire body, paying attention to especially dry areas like elbows and feet.  Rinse well.

You can also use this as a hand scrub.  Set next to the sink and rub into the hands whenever needed.

Avoid getting water into the scrub.  Use a scoop or spoon to get scrub from the jar, rather than wet hands.

Yield: approximately 1 pint

Shelf life:  About 3-4 months
