Farm-Fresh, Simple, Effective Skin Care -- Handmade by YOU!

12 Days of Handmade Christmas Gifts Series --- Day 11: Peppermint Orange Body Balm

For that extra dry winter skin, this soothing balm is the perfect solution.  And the minty orange scent is super yummy.

Because we're not using any water, you don't need to use any preservatives.  A little bit goes a long way.  Just take a dab and massage it over your skin.  It works great on dry legs, elbows and knees, feet and hands, and makes an extra nice cuticle cream.

I pour this body balm into cute little glass containers that I found at the dollar store.  It looks sweet and feels decadent on the skin.  Plus, it's super easy to make!

You can typically find all the ingredients you need at the natural food store.  If you can't find the shea butter, you can substitute cocoa butter.

Peppermint Orange Body Balm
2 tablespoons shea butter
1 tablespoon coconut oil
1 tablespoon jojoba oil OR sweet almond oil
5 drops peppermint essential oil
15 drops sweet orange essential oil

Measure out the shea butter, coconut oil, and jojoba oil into a small bowl.  Microwave for 15-45 seconds, until the oils are just melted.  Mix well, then add in the peppermint and sweet orange essential oils.  Pour immediately into a small container.  Let set undisturbed until it's completely cooled before you put on the lid.

The finished balm will be semi-solid but will melt on contact with your skin.  Just a small dab goes a long way!
