Sweet Honey Lip Balm

Today is probably the first day that it actually feels like fall. With the cooler weather coming, I like to stock up on some essentials -- lip balm.

I really like a thicker, richer balm during during this time of year.  It'll make 8 tubes or 4 pots approximately.  Making a few extra sticks or pots is a good idea, since I always seem to misplace mine.

You can color the balm if you'd prefer, but I actually like the natural color given by the beeswax. The honey adds a touch of sweetness, just make sure to follow the instructions exactly, or it won't mix evenly into your balm.

Sweet Honey Lip Balm
2 teaspoons avocado butter
1 teaspoon sweet almond oil
1 teaspoon natural beeswax
1/4 teaspoon vitamin E
1/4 teaspoon honey

Melt avocado butter and beeswax together.  This can be done in a small bowl in the microwave (low heat in 10-20 second bursts) or in a small double boiler.  Remove from heat and add sweet almond oil and vitamin E.

Next, stir in the honey.  Honey won't mix easily in oil, so you have to really give it a good whip.  Continue stirring until the balm starts to cool and thicken.  Pour into your pots or tubes.  At this point, I like to stick my lip balm into the freezer for a couple of minutes to quickly cool them down.  This helps keep the honey from separating out of your lip balm.  (Take them out well before they freeze, though.)

Once the balms are fully cooled, cap them.  Enjoy your handmade lip balm!
