Day 90: The Holiday Spirit

I'm feeling more than a little guilty for not blogging for so long. It seems it's been all I can do to keep my other blog (for my paying job) updated.

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. We loved spending time with our families, and watching the kids really enjoy the magic of the season.

Even our animals got a special Christmas treat. Kaylin made cookies for the horses, goats, and dogs. They gobbled them up and had to search all our pockets to ensure we weren't hiding more.

This year my extended family decided instead of giving gifts to each other, we would donate to charity. Everyone chose their own special place to which to give. Christmas night we gathered together and told everyone what we did.

My brother-in-law took food to a homeless man he often sees nearby where he shops. An aunt bought a special gift for a deaf woman who works cleaning up the parking lot at the convenience store across from her work. My grandmother made a blanket for Soldiers' Angels, a group that gives to wounded soldiers.

I felt moved to buy a pair of goats for a family living in Ethiopia. The goats will give them milk, meat, and extra money by selling these products, and help them to become self-sufficient.

Even the children were excited about our new tradition, and used their own money to give to charities that spoke to them. I was proud of all of them.

We also got a Christmas surprise. My brother-in-law and sister-in-law are expecting their first baby. I'm going to be a first-time aunt. How exciting!

I used my "witchcraft" to predict they will be having a girl. It's never been wrong. I'm going to start buying pink booties.

I hope everyone had a Christmas season that was as special and memorable as I did. Now on to a New Year!
