Juniper Berry Pore Cleansing Mask

Seems like my skin has been going haywire lately. I’ll blame it on stress, but who really knows?

So on top of the tea tree and juniper berry soap I usually make for my face, I’ve also been using a mask that helps exfoliate the skin and clear pore blockages. I originally devised the recipe for my son, who at 13 is starting to see the beginnings of blackheads and pimples. I liked the results so much, I’ve probably used more than he has.

If you have oily skin, or skin prone to breakouts, you can use this mask two to three times per week. Because this recipe makes for a dry mask base that you hydrate with water when ready to use, it eliminates the need for preservatives. Your skin will love that it is 100% natural.

Best of all, this mask is way less expensive than those skin care products you find at the day spa. You can find the ingredients at some of the larger natural food stores, or at online herbal suppliers.

Juniper Berry Pore-Cleansing Mask
1/4 cup oatmeal powder
2 tablespoons yellow illite clay

1 tablespoon Moroccan red clay

1 teaspoon powdered white willow bark

6 drops juniper berry essential oil

Place oats into a food processor and blend until you have a fine powder. Place in small bowl and stir in clays and willow bark. Add juniper berry oil drop by drop, and stir in thoroughly.

To use, mix one tablespoon mask to approximately one tablespoon warm water. Apply to entire face and neck, let set 10 minutes. Gently remove with a damp washcloth and rinse well.
