Day 7: The Emerald City

One of my all-time favorite movies is The Wizard of Oz. I love when Dorothy and her pals finally make it to the beautiful Emerald City.

Now, my hometown, is striving to become its very own Emerald City.

The Emerald Tracy Project was launched last month. The goal is for the city to reduce its carbon footprint, decrease dependence on fossil fuels, protect local sustainable farms and ranches, protect lands from urbanization, and reduce pollution and waste.

I'm extremely proud and excited that my city is hoping to develop into a sustainable community, and I can't wait to help out. If Tracy meets its goals, it will be the second California city to achieve "emerald" status (Riverside, in Southern California was the first.

We've always tried to do our part by recycling, conserving water, and decreasing our energy use. But now I'm inspired to do more.

Homesteader's Tip:
Stop pouring good water down the drain! Water used to steam vegetables, cook pasta, or drinking water leftover in the bottle can be used to water house plants.
